A good photograph is one that captures your quintessence.
Quintessence -
The firth element. The essence of a thing in its purest and most concentrated form.
The fear
The ultimate fear we often have is letting ourselves be ourselves. A photo session is a revealing process for most people, it puts the person in front of a lens that look at and into us. A photographer's job is beyond "just snapping a photo," it is ever more so about holding the space for a person so the person can feel free to be themselves, be at ease even if a little nervous.
Nervous vs Uncomfortable
It is ok to be nervous, it lets us be more in tune when ourselves in that moment, it keeps us on our toes, it keeps emotions real. Uncomfortable is a different story, you should not feel uncomfortable during a photoshoot. If you do, speak up!
True essence
Connecting with people, not rushing is important to me as a person and as a photographer. Getting to know the person without prying, having a conversation is a meaningful moment. A true compliment is when a person that looking at their portrait is thinking "this is my true essence."
You are perfect, because you are you.
"Regard yourself as a cloud, in the flesh, because you see, clouds never make mistakes. Did you ever see a cloud that was misshapen? Did you ever see a badly designed wave? No, they always do the right thing. But, if you will, treat yourself for a while as a cloud or a wave and realize that you can’t make a mistake whatever you do. Because even if you do something that appears totally disastrous, it will all come out in the wash somehow or another. Then through this capacity you will develop a kind of confidence. And through confidence you will be able to trust your own intuition.”
